Before the kids’ new school year started, we were nervous. There were a lot of new changes that our family had to deal with. Some we were excited about and others, not so much.
To start, not only did we have one teenager going into high school, we had two.
Towards the end of last year, we were informed that my 13-year-old would be going to the high school alongside her 14-year-old stepsister because of changes the school district made in housing of students. Both girls were understandably nervous about entering a new school. And mommy wasn’t any better. I wasn’t sure if my 13-year-old was quite ready to be around teenagers who are way older than her. Would they intimidate her? Bully her? So many scenarios ran through my head.
I was happy, though, that her first day of school was not a full day and included the parents if they wished to intend. It helped put my mind at ease. I, of course, went so I could see for myself how her days would go.
This is a picture from my daughter’s first day that I caught on my Panasonic LUMIX G7.
Prior to the beginning of school, my son and our friend’s daughter took part into a back-to-school photo shoot with me, modeling two cute outfits that they picked out for their new school year.
In the photo below, the kiddos were standing at the bus stop near our friend’s house. They were running around, posing for different photos, and having a blast, and this photo features one of those poses. They are so dang cute together!
One of the things I love to do with my Panasonic LUMIX G7 is experiment with it’s different settings. In the photo below, my son is practicing one of his tae kwon do poses. The timing of this photo was absolutely perfect, and I love the look on his face. Determination meets silliness.
This is one of my favorite photos of my son and our friend’s daughter. This is an idea he had all on his own, and it ended up producing some of the cutest photos from that day.
While this new school year was nerve-wrecking for my daughter and stepdaughter, for my 8-year-old son, it was way worse. He would be attending a new charter school where there was no guarantee he would know anyone. But my husband and I kept telling him that he would make friends and that there was a chance that he would know someone at the school. And sure enough he did. One of his classmates from last year had transferred to the charter school too. Boy, was my son happy.
In this pic, my husband thought he would be funny and cheer about school starting. My son wasn’t so thrilled by his stepfather’s antics, but I was. (I love my husband’s personality. He makes me laugh all the time, even when I don’t want to.)
And here we have my son’s attempt at a smile, but I think he was still a bit irritated with my husband, so this was as good as I was going to get.
(How handsome did he look on his first day? He wanted to look “fancy” and even made me gel his hair into a purposely messy style.)
One thing that didn’t change this year was soccer. My son was super excited to sign up again. Since soccer is outside and fast-paced, it’s giving me many opportunities to snap pictures of the kids in action. And I love it. I hope I manage to capture his first goal ever this season. Say a prayer for him, please.
