Growing up, I watched my mom struggle with eczema. And now that I have a son, he struggles with it too, but not nearly to the same extent as my mother. Because of his skin sensitivity, I have to watch what I use on his clothing, especially during the winter since his skin is more sensitive at that time. Luckily he doesn’t have spots all over his body. Usually his flareups are located on his back and his butt…and sometimes his right thigh.
Woolzies Dryer Balls are perfect for people like my son and mother who don’t respond well to dryer sheets. The chemicals used in them are harsh on the skin…and the environment.
And yes, there is the option of using dryer sheets that are scent free and all natural, but when you do the math, it’s not exactly cost effective to do so, especially if you’re a family like mine that doesn’t have a lot of money to toss around like it’s nothing.
So…that being said…I’m going to throw some math at you. (I can’t believe I’m doing this since I hate math.) All the figures below are based on what my family spends on dryer sheets.
Saving With Woolzies Dryer Balls
We buy the cheapest dryer sheets but because there’s so many of us, which means larger loads of laundry, we tend to use three sheets per load. So if we buy a 160-ct box from Walmart, we only get 53 loads per box.
One box of Woolzies last for 1,000 loads. One box of the large Woolzies balls costs $34.95.
One box of the dryer sheets we use costs $3.98. Since we use 3 sheets per load, it would cost us $75.10 (19 boxes) to equal the 1,000 loads that one box of Woolzies Dryer Balls can do. (Savings would be even more if you typically purchase name brand sheets. We don’t typically since we try to save money any way possible.)
In addition, the Woolzies Dryer Balls box states that they cut down drying time by up to 25% for large loads of laundry and between 35-40% for small loads. That means you’re using less electricity to run your dryer, which means an even greater amount of savings.
Also, unless you buy 19 boxes of dryer sheets at once, you are also saving money on gas and vehicle maintenance.
When you total all of the savings, it’s well over $100. And I don’t know about you, but that’s a lot of money for a family like ours.
Now, I do have to say that when I dried an extra large load of laundry, I didn’t see a decrease in the length of time it took to dry the laundry and that is because I did not have enough balls. The card insert that comes with the balls clearly states that extra large loads need 8 balls instead of six. Because of that, I could not give a fair assessment on the actual length of time to dry a load of laundry.
Also, if you’re doing an extra large load, eight balls is going to cost you more than six, so initially you will spend even more, but in the end, the amount of money you save will make it worthwhile.
To Smell or Not to Smell
If you’re the type who wants your laundry to have a scent when removed from the dryer, you can add a couple drops of essential oil to two of your balls and then toss them back into the dryer with the remaining six. You’re laundry will then come out smelling the way you want.
Other Woolzies Dryer Balls Facts
