This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of UPS for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.
One of the biggest lessons we’re trying to teach our children is to give back to others…to make a difference in other people’s lives whenever possible, no matter how bad off you are. We may not have a lot of money, but we know that we’re more fortunate than many, so we try to do what we can each year. This year has been no different. When money permits, we donate where we can, whether it’s money, food, our time, etc.
One of the things I wish that my husband and I could do is pay for the best possible medical care for my brother. He was diagnosed with MS (Multiple Sclerosis) about a year and a half ago, give or take. His diagnosis came after months of problems, ranging from facial numbness, decreased hand sensitivity, loss of hearing, etc. Those months of not knowing were scary for all of us, but more so for him. His life was essentially hanging in limbo. He didn’t know where his life was going to take him or for how long he would be around.
As for us, we didn’t know if we were going to lose my brother. So when he finally got a diagnosis of MS, it was a relief. At least we finally knew what was wrong.
At least he could come up with a game plan to help live with it.
And boy has he! Since his diagnosis, he has lost about 150 lbs. For my brother, who was a smoker and liked to eat anything that tasted good, that is a huge step. He exercises. He monitors food most of the time. Although, lately, he’s had a weakness for dark chocolate.
The thing is, the treatment for MS can get quite costly. Yes, he has insurance…for now, but that could change.
And even now, I don’t know if he has the same options as those with more money to spend. So for my brother, my wish is that he gets the best treatment for MS so he can continue to live and thrive…so we can keep him around and enjoy many more years with him.
My brother is one of my best friends. Our relationship hasn’t always been smooth sailing, but now that we’re adults, we get a long great, and I admire him more than he will ever know. He is my role model and inspiration. And I’m in awe of all that he has accomplished. (I love you, bro! Keep up the good fight!)
Even though my brother has MS, he hasn’t let it stop him from living. He doesn’t let it control his life.
Just recently, in fact, despite memory retention issues (his short term memory is not good), he received his real estate license with hopes he can leave retail for good and sell homes to those living in the New Hampshire area since working retail doesn’t help his MS any.
