I’m over being sick. OVER IT!!!
Over the past few months, we’ve dealt with one illness after another. When one person got better, another got sick. It never failed.
And me? I caught just about everything that waltzed through our doors. Seriously, the people in this house LOVE to share their germs with me. Damn petri dishes.
Fighting everything has been EXHAUSTING!
I know we aren’t the only ones experiencing an influx of colds and stomach bugs. Many of my friends on Facebook are posting the same things as me, that their families have been consistently sick for months. And I feel for them. I really do. ‘Cause this sucks!
The newest illness that striking everyone I know, it seems, is strep throat. Say ahhh!
Our personal experience with it began about two weeks ago when my fiance’s son got sick. His mother took him to the doctor’s where they did a Rapid Strep Test on him which came back negative. About a day later we found out that his throat culture was positive.
About a week later my son’s nurse called and asked if I could come pick him up because he wasn’t feeling well. A few of the symptoms he had were similar to my fiance’s son’s symptoms, so I called my son’s pediatrician and got him right in. And it was a good thing I did!! His rapid test came back positive AND they discovered he had an ear infection. Poor kiddo!
The same day the doctors diagnosed him, I got checked out at ConvenientMD in Concord, NH, because I had a few symptoms that were similar to my son’s. Like my fiance’s son, my Rapid Test came back negative, but because that is what happened to my fiance’s son, they put me on antibiotics. I got the call on Sunday that my culture also came back positive.
On Monday, I took my fiancé in to get checked out because he had a sore in his mouth. Though his Rapid also came back negative, the doctor put him on antibiotics and said the heck with the throat culture because of what happened with his son and me.
I wish I could say that was the end of our strep throat issues, but I’m not sure it is. We are currently waiting to hear back from my daughter’s doctor’s office to see if her throat culture is positive. She came home from school a couple of days ago and told me her throat was hurting when she swallowed and that she felt like she may puke.
*sigh* I really hope this is the end of this vicious cycle we’ve been caught in. I’m ready to enjoy the warm weather headed our way. I don’t want some silly illness to hold any of us back from having a great time.
Oh, I know this vicious cycle. My son brings home all the germs from preschool. After I end up taking care of everyone, then I get sick. 🙂 Hope your kiddos feel better soon!
