Growing up, Sunday football games were fun and something I looked forward to watching. And now that I’m in a relationship with someone who looks forward to games we can watch together, they’ve become something extra special for me. I find myself drawn into the excitement my boyfriend exudes while watching our favorite team play. And I love how we both holler at the TV whenever there’s an interception or a fumble. I’m pretty sure the neighbors can hear us.
Since Game Day is such a big deal in our home, I try to find meals to make that are easy to make but taste great, that way we can spend time together as a family or couple rather than having me spend the entire time in the kitchen, preparing an intricate meal, and missing the game.
Our favorite go to meal during football season? Pizza. And not just any pizza. We go for DiGiornios since they offer a wide range of pizzas to choose from, which makes everyone in the house is happy. And who’s the happiest of all? The Momma! I just pop the pizza in the oven and forget it until the oven beeps.
Two weekends ago, the boyfriend and I headed to Walmart to pick up grocery items for the week, including the pizzas we wanted for the game that night. Our first choice was the Three Meat Pizza. It’s our favorite. We also grabbed a Four Cheese one, as well as a Rising Crust Pepperoni one to please the palettes of the four kiddos.
That night we put together a spread for all six of us to enjoy. We even had ice cream cupcakes for the kids…and adult beverages for The Boyfriend and me.
The kids dove in without hesitation and had their first slices, along with breadsticks, devoured before my boyfriend and I had even had our first bite. Can you say human garbage disposals? Seriously! Those four know how to hoover some food.
And then it was my boyfriend’s turn. I could see he was in Heaven while scarfing down his first slice of perfectly cooked pizza. Not only was he eating his favorite meal, he was also watching his favorite sport. What more could he ask for?
Well, he probably would have enjoyed it more had his favorite team been playing that night instead of the night before.
Because I didn’t want just pizza, I added an herb salad mix with cherry tomatoes, topped with an Italian dressing and paired with DiGiorno breadsticks, to my plate. It was a delicious meal. (My boyfriend even stole a bite of my salad and had to go make himself one because he agreed it was the perfect compliment to the pizza.)
And since I added salad to my meal, I didn’t feel as guilty about deviating from my diet.
Since The Big Game is just around the corner, we purchased a couple extra pizzas for that night, as well. We are planning on having a feast, of sorts, while we watch the game. Any suggestions on great appetizers to make to go with our pizza?
If you’re planning on hosting a party for The Big Game, you can find DiGiorno Pizza at Walmart for a rollback price of $4.50. That’s almost $1.00 savings per pizza, which you all know, I LOVE! I never turn down a good deal on foods we eat a lot of.
My kids are the same way! I try go make sure that me and my husband get a plate of food first because if we don’t, we might not get anything!

Our four kids have such appetites that I’ve seen my boyfriend and I eat less because they’ve eaten so much. I am scared to see what our grocery bill will be when they’re all teenagers. It’s a scary thought.
