I saw this pic on Facebook this morning and it made me laugh because I’m SO guilty of doing it. Yes, I’m a nerd girl who named her child after a fictional character. Luckily, it was not Beezus from a Judy Blume book. I’m not THAT mean.
My daughter’s middle name comes from the Hudson series of books by V.C. Andrews. It features a girl named Rain Hudson. I loved the name so much that I had to use it as my daughtér’s middle name. And it suits her. Everyone says so.
My daughter’s first name is based on the lead female character in the movie Lorenzo’s Oil, which is based on a true story. I fell in love with the name Michaela when I first heard it on the movie back when I was between 12 and 14. I decided then and there I wanted my future Mini Me to be named that. I did play around with different names while pregnant with my daughter but I kept going back to Michaela. I wanted it to be different, though, so I changed the spelling to Mikala which goes perfectly with Rain.
As for my son, his name actually came about from American Idol. I was tossing around several different names, including Chloe and Caleb, but then Blake Lewis appeared on the show. I loved the name Blake and decided I would name my unborn baby that no matter if it was a boy or girl. It was only after I chose that name that Blake Lively, of Gossip Girl fame, became a household name and the name Blake became more popular.
So my question for all of you is, how many of you are guilty of doing the same thing? Or are you planning on doing the same thing when you give birth?
If I ever have another baby girl, I’ve contemplated naming her Kahlan after the lead female character in the Sword of Truth series, written by Terry Goodkind. (If you haven’t read the series, and you love fantasy novels, you HAVE to read it. SO GOOD!)
If you are like me, please leave a comment below. I’d love to hear the names you’ve chosen.
