One of my favorite meals to make for me and my kiddos is the turkey chili recipe below that I cook in my crockpot. My life can be pretty busy at times. Some days I’m barely home even though I work from the comforts of my own living room. On those days, recipes like this one come in handy because I can throw all the ingredients for a tasty meal right into my crockpot, set it on low and let it cook all day long. And by the time I’m ready to sit down with the kidlets and eat, it’s warm and ready to consume.
Enjoy!
Turkey Chili Recipe
Ingredients:
1 lb. ground turkey burger
1/2 cup of water
1 can of petite diced tomatoes with onion, celery, and green peppers in tomato juice
1 can of petite diced tomatoes with green chiles
1 16oz. can of red kidney beans
1 16oz. can of pinto beans
1 tbsp. of garlic powder
1/2 tsp. of paprika
2 tbsp. of chili powder
1/2 tsp. of oregano
1/2 tsp. of cayenne pepper or crushed red pepper flakes (I used the flakes.)
1/2 tsp. of cumin
1/2 tsp. of salt
1/2 tsp. of black pepper
Steps:
1- Brown ground turkey in a pan. (I add a couple tbsp. of water to the pan to keep the turkey from sticking. If you have a nonstick pan, they work just as well.)
2- Add your cans of diced tomatoes to your crockpot. Add your red kidney and pinto beans, as well, after you’ve rinsed them with water in a strainer.
3- Add turkey, along with 1/2 cup of water.
4- Add the garlic powder, chili powder, paprika, oregano, cayenne or crushed red pepper, cumin, salt and black pepper.
5- Turn your crockpot on low and let it cook for the entire day. Once you’re ready to sit down and eat, you can add cheddar cheese and sour cream to the top, if you’d wish. If I add sour cream, I use fat free. It’s what I prefer.
Enjoy!
