Meet Zoe.Zoe is our active, precocious, inquisitive, loving, and funny year-old puppy who keeps us on our toes every minute of every day. To get an idea of how crazy she can get, picture a toddler who gets into something every time you turn your back. (Or as in the picture below, she will climb on your back when you turn it.)
Do you see the image in your head? Good. That’s exactly how our Zoe acts…just like a toddler.
Like toddlers, she’s known to eat things she shouldn’t and that could potentially harm her. On several occasions in the past she’s eaten pieces of rubber band bracelets. You know the ones I’m talking about…that were all the rage last Christmas? Imagine my surprise when I found a whole bracelet in her poop one time. I’m not sure how she swallowed it and didn’t hurt herself. I swear it’s a miracle.
Needless to say, our kids got yelled at several times for not taking care of their rubber band bracelets.
Our worst Zoe incident involved some fake poop my daughter made out of cardboard and Nutella.
See, my 12-year-old is obsessed with YouTube science videos and thought it would be cool to make her own fake pile of poop to mess with her mother…me. Too bad for her, I knew what it was. Her stepfather and I told her to throw it away once I found it on my office floor, but for whatever reason, though, my daughter thought it was a good idea to stash it in her bedroom instead.
She didn’t shut her bedroom door.
Zoe walked on it…and you can guess what happened.
Yep, she ate it.
If you’re not familiar with Nutella, it has chocolate in it which meant yet another call to the vet who made us give her peroxide in order to induce vomiting. Boy, that was like going on a rollercoaster at the amusement park. NOT! It was disgusting and smelly, and the poor thing had no idea what was going on with her when she started heaving.
The two above scenarios taught us just how important it is that we stay diligent and aware of what our puppy is doing at all times. With four kids in the house, though, it’s not always easy since they aren’t as cautious as us. In fact, just the other day Zoe managed to get into the kids’ leftover Halloween candy. Guess who’s sending the rest to work with her husband now?
Proper dog diets are important…and they don’t include candy and rubber bands. What they DO need is dog food that is filled with the proper nutrients to help keep them happy AND healthy.
Royal Canin recognizes that dogs have different dietary needs and produces products that are geared towards all different types of issues, like for those with small dogs that are mostly indoor dogs who use a pee pad or litter box to go to the bathroom. Yep. There are diets specifically designed for those kinds of dogs…and many others.
Also, if you have a dog like ours, make sure to keep an eye out for concerning behavior that may indicate they’ve consumed something they shouldn’t. may have a doggy tummy bug or aren’t receiving the nutrients they need. Signs to watch for include diarrhea, excessive flatulence, etc.
