I’ve been a huge fan of Gary Chapman’s books since an acquaintance of mine recommended them to me a couple years ago, so when I was given a chance to review The Marriage You’ve Always Wanted, I was ecstatic.
Though my boyfriend and I aren’t married…yet…we will be in a few months and I want to make sure that this marriage is the last for both of us. We both have had previous marriages that were turbulent and void of affection, and we want more than anything to have a successful, happy marriage this time around. We want to make sure that we start off on the right foot and keep our relationship full of the same spark and connection it’s had up until this point. But to make sure that happens, it’s going to take working together as a team. That’s where this book comes in.
To us, there’s no such thing as working on your marriage too soon, and that’s why I was ecstatic. I want to start working on our upcoming marriage NOW.
I have to say The Marriage You’ve Always Wanted contains a wealth of information for those like us looking to achieve oneness with their spouse. The topic of oneness is talked about throughout the book, and the way that Mr. Chapman talks about achieving that makes it sound doable for any couple willing to put forth the effort needed. Good marriages don’t just happen. They take TWO willing, loving partners who give the relationship their all.
While this book is geared towards Christians, there’s material within its pages that can be useful to all, no matter your religious practices. However, if you don’t like to read books that have a strong Christian focus, this isn’t a book for you. I, however, found it extremely helpful, and I felt validated after reading it because much of what Gary Chapman talks about in the book my boyfriend and I already do. However, like many, we question whether or not we are doing things correctly. And it turns out, we are on the right track. That doesn’t mean we can slack, though. We have to continue to work at this.
The Marriage You’ve Always Wanted is broken up into chapters and covers disagreements, sex, finances, decision making, love, honoring and respecting each other’s parents and more.
