This year is all about growth and change for me, on a professional level, as well on as on a personal level. And one way that I hope to change over the 2014 year is by addressing my health and making the necessary changes to insure I give myself the best chance at living a long, happy and healthy life.
One way that I hope to help myself is by losing weight. I want to lose about 30lbs. this year. It’s not a huge amount, but I think it’s an attainable goal. The last thing I wanted to do was set the bar too high and not be able to reach it. So I’m taking baby steps.
And if by some chance I surpass my weightloss goal for this year, I will set another small one.
My biggest reason for wanting to lose the weight is my family. I don’t want to leave my kids without a mother. I lost my grandmother when I was five and she was 49. I don’t want to leave my kids that young.
I want to live for as long as possible.
I want to see them graduate, get married, have children and more.
I want to see my children live their lives.
I want to be there for them when the stumble and wonder how to get through the tough moments we all inevitably face over the course of our lives.
I want to be there for them when their future children drive them mad from not listening.
I worry about leaving them before they become adults quite often. It’s one of my biggest fears. I’ve been known to lose sleep at night because my mind goes into overdrive, and I start to worry about all the “what ifs” in the world. I don’t want to live like that because you’re not really living if you do, and life is too short to not enjoy the time you have on Earth.
One way that I can take better care of myself is by making sure I receive proper medical care when I’m sick with strep, a UTI, etc. Unfortunately for me, though, I, like many other Americans, do not have health insurance, so there aren’t a lot of options open to me when it comes to seeking medical care. CVS has made it easier for me, though, by opening up a MinuteClinic in locations near me. Though I have not visited one yet, I know I will be because it’s a perfect solution for me.
Each MinuteClinic location offers a wide range of services, including a personalized weightloss program, a smoking cessation program, as well as physicals for sports, camp, work, etc., testing for strep, treatment for various infections, flu shots, testing of blood pressure, cholesterol and more.
And whether you have insurance or not, you can visit your nearest MinuteClinic for help. That’s a good thing for me since I do not have insurance and can’t afford to pay for it.
I think it’s fantastic that they offer programs for weightloss program and smoking cessation. Losing weight and quitting smoking can be extremely difficult. It’s wonderful to know there’s a place one can go to seek medical advice, as well as support, without dealing with an actual doctor’s office.
Though I have never smoked, I’ve seen those I love struggle with quitting, and now that I’m older, I can understand and respect how challenging it can be.
I also know that losing weight isn’t as simple as some would like you to believe. I know everyone has their own unique challenges and medical issues that can hinder your weightloss efforts.
And when you’re a busy mom like me, who often puts others needs and wants ahead of her own, it can be hard to make time for a doctor’s appointment. With the evening hours offered at the MinuteClinic, I don’t have to worry about the time crunch I often find myself in during the day. I know that’s extremely important to other moms in similar situations.
