I’m an adult. A mature, responsible adult. And on occasion I like to indulge and have an adult beverage. With the Big Game just two weeks away, you can bet I will be indulging that night while munching on some yummy food. On nights like that, it’s nice to indulge without adding unnecessary calories to my diet.
One beverage that I like to drink is wine. However, I don’t like all the calories I consume when drinking it. For instance, Pinot Grigio, which happens to be one of my favorites, can have anywhere from 153-173 calories. The calories add up quickly when you drink more than one glass.
With the new year here, I’m attempting to keep my New Year’s Resolutions. I want to live a healthier lifestyle, and one of the things that I have to do is watch my calorie intake.
My philosophy, though, is that I shouldn’t have to give up everything that I love, including wine. So how do I go about living healthier while still enjoying the things that I love? As far as foods and drinks go, I find healthier alternatives.
Recently I was sent two bottles of Brancott Estate Flight Song wine: one bottle of Pinot Grigio and one bottle of Sauvignon Blanc to sample and see if I like them as much as similar, full-calorie wines.
Flight Song wines allow me to enjoy the taste of my favorite wines without worrying about my waistline. Flight Song wines have 20% fewer calories than other wines but still have the same great taste I love.
As I stated, Pinot Grigio is one of my favorite wines. I love adding blueberries and raspberries to it, so of course I added them to a glass of the Flight Song Pinot Grigio 2013. From the moment I took my first sip, I was hooked. I couldn’t tell that it had less calories. It still tasted great and went down smooth.
When it came to Sauvignon Blanc 2013, I had no prior experience with it, so I can’t say if it tastes like other Sauvignon Blanc wines. I will say, though, that I also enjoyed the taste of it, and I will be adding both types of wine to my wine rack for those moments when I’m craving a glass.
My New Year’s Resolutions/Goals
I have many health goals to follow this year. They include:
- Exercise more (Pilates, yoga, stationary bike and elliptical)
- Eat healthier (continue to cut gluten out of my diet and eat more clean dishes. Eventually want to go Paleo.)
- Work on my mental health – Over the past couple years my self-confidence has taken a nose dive. I’ve struggled with depression, and I don’t want it to control my life. I want to control it.
Now that I’ve shared some of my goals/resolutions for this year, what are some of yours and how do you plan on reaching them?
