Today, the boyfriend and I successfully managed to piss off both my daughter and his. And we didn’t have to try very hard. Go us!
One of the new rules in our house is that their beds need to be made before they go to school. At 11 and 12, they are more than capable of making sure their beds are made each morning. If they do not, they lose their iPods. Well…the girls didn’t make their beds this morning.
The boys did, though, and one of the boys is six, so if he can, there’s no excuse for the two oldest.
The first time they forgot to make their beds, we let it slide, but we told them any time after that there would be consequences. And there was. They are not allowed to use their iPods tonight and neither one of them are pleased with us. And I can’t figure out who is angrier about it. It could go either way.
My boyfriend’s daughter thought we singled her out, which we don’t understand since my daughter lost her privileges too. His daughter mentioned that no one else lost their’s last time. And we told her she didn’t either, that we gave them all some slack. I think she forgot that.
And my daughter is angry because she can’t FaceTime my parents tonight. I told her she could use my phone to call them, but apparently that wasn’t good enough. So I guess she won’t be talking to them unless she decides to use the phone.
So what do you think I did when both girls stormed out of our bedroom? I high-fived the boyfriend and told him, “Hey, we both suck! WOOHOO!” That means we’re doing a good job, right?
Oh I am totally with you… The first thing to go with any consequence is the electronics.
