I love to cook. A lot. I love testing out new recipes on my family.  Some end up being huge hits that I make over and over again. And others not so much. Over the years, I’ve been known to spend HOURS searching online for the perfect recipe, and instead of printing them out because it wastes too much paper and ink, I bookmark it. Now if you’re like me, you know those bookmarks build up fast. And there’s nothing I hate more than a ton of bookmarks to search through when I want to make a particular recipe. So when...

Thanksgiving is just a couple days away, which means I need to start prepping for it. I was going to make a bacon-wrapped turkey, but I just don’t have the time, space or money this year to cook the meal I wanted. So I modified my Thanksgiving dinner menu a little bit. I’m making: A small spiral ham A Butterball Savory Herb Turkey Roast Maine potatoes Cranberry sauce Green bean casserole Butternut squash Stuffing Homemade gravy Rolls made from Take 2 Dough Production‘s dough Blueberry pie Pumpkin pie filling (My...

Recently I mentioned to several people I know my family’s version of homemade mac ‘n cheese. It’s one of our favorite meals to make, so I thought I’d share it with all of you, too. I actually just made  a batch yesterday for my dad’s birthday. And judging by the phone call I received last night after he ate it, I outdid myself. I did, however, to doublecheck with my mother this morning to make sure she enjoyed it, as well. She did. SCORE FOR ME! This recipe makes two huge batches of mac ‘n cheese....

I first tried refried bean dip when I was six or seven at a neighbor’s house. It instantly became a favorite for my mother and I who have made it fairly regularly ever since. It’s a super easy snack or even meal to through together. It’s cheap, too, which is great. Ingredients: 1 can of refried beans – Store brand is fine. I prefer one...

Today I have a guest blog post from my fellow cheap bitch, Amber of Thrifty Ninja. (Yes, that is actually how we refer to each other. We’re cool like that.) We were chatting last night about a delicious broccoli cheddar soup she’d made, and I said that she should write up a guest blog post for my site that tells all of you how to make. So she did. And I’m thrilled. I can’t wait to make it. When you’re done reading her recipe, please take some time and visit her site. I know she’d love to have...

We recently made the decision as a family to start eating more gluten-free foods for a variety of reasons. Money-wise, it’s hard right now to switch to a completely gluten-free diet, but we’re doing the best we can and trying to introduce a few new gluten-free items each pay period. Fortunately for me, I work for a company that produces several gluten-free items, so I’m able to get some items for free. However, I’m still looking for some recommendations on other tasty options available that aren’t too...

This week is grocery shopping week. Every two weeks I make a trip to the grocery store(s) since that is how often my husband gets paid.  With bi-weekly and monthly pay, it becomes even more important to budget your money and plan ahead. Every payperiod, before I head to the grocery store, I sit down and create a menu based around sale items and food I have...

Some of my favorite articles and blog posts to read are ones about meals that cost under $5. It always intrigues me to see what kinds of meals are possible for so little of an amount. With the rising grocery prices, it’s becoming harder and harder to achieve that. But with a little creativity and work, it’s possible Sure, there are times that I...
